Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains what Power Rate Check LLC ("Power Rate Check," "we," "us," or "our") collects, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices available to you when you use PowerRateCheck.com and our related services.

You can compare electricity plans without creating an account or giving us your name. We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising.

1. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on the features you use:

Plan comparisons: ZIP code or service address, utility area, electricity usage, plan information, preferences, and answers you provide.

Uploaded plan documents: If you upload an Electricity Facts Label or similar plan document for a second opinion, we process it to provide the requested review and do not retain the document after processing, except for temporary technical copies needed to complete the request.

Electricity bills: If you upload an electricity bill, we process the bill to provide the requested feature. We may retain the uploaded bill and information extracted from it to operate, evaluate, secure, and improve our bill-reading service. We do not sell uploaded bills or information extracted from them.

Alerts and communications: If you request an alert or contact us, we may collect your email address, usage or plan details, communication preferences, and the information in your message.

Website usage information: Like most websites, our systems receive limited technical and usage information, such as IP address, browser or device type, pages or steps reached, and error or security information. We use it to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and understand use of the Service, not to build advertising profiles.

2. How We Use and Share Information

We use information to provide plan comparisons, review uploaded documents, send requested alerts, respond to questions or complaints, improve and secure the Service, prevent fraud, and meet legal or regulatory obligations.

We share information only as reasonably necessary:

With service providers: Companies that support hosting, email delivery, security, customer service, or other operations may receive information needed to perform those services for us.

For legal or business reasons: We may disclose information when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect customers, Power Rate Check, or others. Information may also transfer as part of a merger, financing, or sale of the business, subject to applicable law.

Links to electricity providers. If you choose to visit a retail electricity provider, you leave Power Rate Check and interact directly with that provider. We do not currently send your uploaded bill, comparison information, contact information, or account information to the provider when you follow the link. We may record that an outbound provider link was selected. Information you provide on the provider's website is governed by that provider's privacy policy.

If we later offer a service that transmits information to a provider on your behalf, we will tell you before the information is transmitted and update this Policy as appropriate.

We may use information that has been aggregated or deidentified so that it does not reasonably identify you.

3. Cookies and Browser Storage

We use cookies and browser storage as needed to operate and secure the Service, remember choices, maintain access or other sessions, and measure use of our website. Clearing browser data may remove saved choices or require you to sign in or enter an access code again.

4. How Long We Keep Information

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy and for applicable legal, security, fraud-prevention, and recordkeeping requirements. Uploaded plan documents used for a second opinion are not retained after processing, apart from temporary technical copies. Other information, including uploaded bills and information extracted from them, is deleted or deidentified when it is no longer reasonably needed. Complaint and other regulatory records are kept for the period required by the Public Utility Commission of Texas or other applicable law.

5. Your Choices

You may unsubscribe from optional emails by using the link in the message or contacting us.

Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to confirm whether we process personal data about you and request access, correction, deletion, or a portable copy. Email and describe your request. We may need to verify your identity before responding. If we deny a request covered by applicable law, you may appeal by replying to our decision.

Some information may be retained when needed to complete a transaction you requested, maintain security, resolve a dispute, or satisfy legal and regulatory obligations.

6. Security and Children

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No website or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

The Service is intended for adults making household electricity decisions. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information through the Service.

7. Contact and Changes

We may update this Policy as the Service or our practices change. The effective date above identifies the current version, and we will provide additional notice when reasonably appropriate for a material change.
