ESI ID
What is an ESI ID, and how do I find mine?
An ESI ID is the number that identifies the electric meter at your address. You can look yours up below by typing your address.

We search the public list of meters that ERCOT publishes. We do not keep what you type.
We search the public list of meters that ERCOT publishes. It covers homes in the parts of Texas where you can choose a provider.
Live in an apartment? Pick your building from the list and then your unit, or just type your apartment number.
What is the number?
ESI ID is short for Electric Service Identifier. ERCOT, which runs the Texas power grid, uses it to keep track of every meter.
The number belongs to the address, not to you. When you move out, it stays with the home.
Is it the same as my meter number?
No. Your meter number is printed on the meter itself. The ESI ID is the number on your bill that identifies your address in ERCOT's records.
Where is it on your bill?
Texas rules say every bill must show it. Look near your service address and account number.
- Service address
- 123 Example St, Houston TX 77002
- ESI ID
- 10XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
- Account number
- 0000-0000-00
Example bill. Every Texas bill must show these three lines.
It is a long number, so copy it exactly, digit by digit.
Can't find it with the lookup?
A brand-new home may not be on the list yet. Ask your landlord, the seller or the property manager.
Your local utility can help too. That is the company that owns the poles and wires, like Oncor or CenterPoint.
When do you need it?
You may need it when you start service at a new home, so the right meter gets turned on.
You also need it to set up Smart Meter Texas, a site that shows how much power your home uses.
